WP12.3 - Fire Paradox 'White Book'
An important contribution of FIRE PARADOX to the integrated wildland fire management discussion at the European level will be the elaboration of the “White Book”. This work package is therefore dedicated to the production of this high level strategic publication. It will represent a very powerful asset for assisting policymakers, but also other target groups as well as researchers and managers. The “White Book” will contribute to the development of necessary "common strategies" to implement integrated wildland fire management policies, with the assumptions that the reduction of wildfire hazard and the sustainable development of natural and managed ecosystems in Europe require new practices. Such practices should be prescribed burning and suppression fire, in conjunction with increasing public and political awareness through knowledge and technology transfer. The ‘White Book’ will therefore be one of the central outputs of FIRE PARADOX which clearly stated in its main aim that the creation of a scientific and technological basis for new practices and policies under Integrated Wildland Fire Management in Europe are crucial.
The “White Book” will thus feed on the results of the different modules focusing at two levels: policies and management practices. Self evidently consideration will be given to the development of strategies for the implementation of the proposed new practices and policies at the European level.
