WP6.4 - Development of high tech tools for fire commanders
The main objective of this task is the development a technological tool for prevention and fire-fighting activities. In the last years there has been an increasing development of the technology of signal and data transmission for telecommunication purposes. This technology can be applied in the construction of “regional centres of resources”, i.e. collectors of different kind of data (e.g. GRPS, satellite, maps, position data) to be used by specific algorithms. This type of system can find useful application in the assistance of fire-fighting work.
An image analysis software will be capable to extract fire lines and spotting from infrared images, and a “regional centre of resources” should be able to put them in a geographical system and to send this information (by GRPS or satellite). Moreover the simulation modeling of fire spread (development in WP6.2) can supply extra information about the fire propagation, and this information can be used to generate a prevision fire map in real time.
The proper combination of this information, by “regional centre of resources”, can be used to develop a prototype of Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to be used by fire commanders in real time, to run a fire simulations (shape of the fire perimeter after one hour), and fire spotting assessment.
