WP9.2 - Creation of a net of demonstration sites for suppression fires
Demonstration for suppression fires involves various aspects that originate three different sequential activities:
Demonstration of suppression fire planning.
Planning is a very important part of the use of suppression fire. Preparedness is the key concept on this issue and that is why it is so important to use good examples to show situations where suppression fire is planned in advance. Therefore, FIRE PARADOX will identify a number of locations where forest managers and fire managers have agreed and planned actions involving suppression fires backfiring to suppress an eventual large wildfire.
Real demonstrations of suppression fires.
Demonstration sites showing the use of backfiring or other suppression fire techniques will be explored. Several planned ignitions will be used to show backfiring as an effective and safe tool to suppress a given wildland fire type. These demonstration sites are aimed to local stakeholders, as well as foresters and fire fighters.
Demonstration film of suppression fires.
The last activity rely on video images tapes collected in the frame of module 8 (monitoring). It will integrate also some sequences of simulation resulting from Modules 2 and 6. A film will be produced with these resources. It will be extensively used as training material in Model 10.
